Drawer House

This dwelling is a product of a methodical performance driven process of elimination. With clear expectations from a client, and a rational process for evaluating decision making, rationalization for design moves becomes almost effortless.

The idea is simple: in the future the land surrounding the site will become a suburban wasteland of 2500 minimum square foot homes resembling every bastardization of historical cliche. The response is simply a bunker, turning it’s back to all sides. One wall is pulled from the box, opening it like a drawer creating a courtyard into which all views will terminate. When no views are desired, solar orientation can drive form with exposure and overhang allowing for a precise relationship to the sun regardless of season.

A language of simple block, rusty steel and a few reclaimed shipping containers to house some nice old Volvos forms an introverted retreat for a couple who simply want to live simply.
