US Bidbook for the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Obstructures worked with our friends at Fulcrum Design in Chicago to create the transportation logistics maps for the U.S. bidbook for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The project was managed by Populous in Denver and art directed by Pentagram in New York.
The maps show generalized locations of city centers, stadiums, hotels, airports, train stations, and entertainment zones; major and minor highway-, train-, and metro-connections amongst the various locations. They are color- coded to show current infrastructure as well as planned improvements. Transportation routes are somewhat abstracted, and fit to a 30-degree matrix in order to focus on density of infrastructure rather than actual geography.
Maps were created for 18 host cities, 18 host city training sites, and 64 base camps in multiple cities; and a national transportation map.
